What is so special about Adirondack chairs?

Adirondack chairs have been around for over 120 years with very little change in their design. That's because their sloped, low-rise design has been time tested and approved for comfort since 1903. The wide arms of an Adirondack provide ample space and the angled seat eases tension in the legs. It stands out from most beach chairs because its simple design is easy and inexpensive.

Then vs. Now

The original Adirondack was made with 11 pieces of wood and features a straight back, wide arms, and a sloped seat. Today, most Adirondacks are made with plastic resin or marine polymer for durability and weather resistance. Many new designs feature contouring or the ability to fold for easy storage and transport but the straight back and wide arms of the traditional design are still as popular today as they were last century.
